About me
Shannon Smith is the Executive Director of the ICWA Law Center located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Shannon graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School with honors in 1999. Shannon has been with the ICWA Law Center since 2000. The ICWA Law Center is committed to strengthening, preserving and reuniting Indian families consistent with the mandates and spirit of the Indian Child Welfare Act. She has over 25 years of experience in work centered in elevating the voice of American Indian families. She has represented hundreds of Indian families impacted by the child protection system in state and tribal courts. She is respected for her legal advocacy and has conducted local and national trainings furthering efforts to increase the understanding of the historical necessity, practical applications and future implications of the Indian Child Welfare Act.
